MBA Consulting Services, Inc. is seeking a skilled Software Engineer to join our Software Process Management (SPM) Team, supporting a key government client in Merrifield, VA. The SPM Team plays a crucial role in maintaining the software development life cycle (SDLC) process for Engineering Systems (ES) within the U.S. Postal Service, specifically focusing on new and existing mail processing and handling equipment.

The SPM Team, is responsible for overseeing the ES software release process, conducting technical reviews, and ensuring the integrity of application software development. This includes engaging in configuration management, independent verification and validation, as well as software and system testing activities. You will contribute to the SDLC process, which integrates both legacy Waterfall and hybrid Waterfall-Agile methodologies, utilizing tools such as MicroFocus Serena Business Management (SBM), Dimensions, VersionOne, and ALM Enterprise.

In this hybrid role, you will work onsite at the Engineering Systems headquarters in Merrifield, VA, four days a week, collaborating closely with a dedicated team to support the development and maintenance of automation processing equipment. This equipment includes a mix of hardware, operational technology (OT) control systems, software applications, databases, and web applications, all operating in both distributed and centralized environments. The Software Engineer participates in the software development and testing of various software applications and associated SDLC design documentation that support mail processing and handling equipment

Responsibilities

 

Design, modify, develop, write, and implement software programming applications

Support and/or install software applications/operating systems

Participate in the testing process through test review and analysis, test witnessing and certification of software

Design, plan, and coordinate work teams

Provide technical support to project team members

Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures

Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

Perform a variety of tasks. Lead and direct the work of others

A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected

Typically reports to a head of a unit/department

Basic Qualification

 

Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in area of specialty (Schools and degree programs must be listed as US Accredited by a US board of accreditation such as ABET)

Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience

Level II – 2+ years of relevant experience

Level III – 4+ years of relevant experienceExperience with SDLC Waterfall and Agile methodologies

Experience using MS Office Suite software (Word, Excel, and Access) and specialized software programs

Candidate must be able to sit, stand and work at a computer for prolonged periods

Strong mathematical and analytical skills

Ability to work flexible hours when needed

Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check & drug test

Able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance
