Genesis10 is currently seeking a Database Administrator Consultant with our client in the transportation industry in their Atlanta, GA location. This is a 12 + month contract position.

Seeking a Database Administrator Consultant

Responsibilities:

Responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise standard databases based on business area requirements

Identify, define, and implement database backup/recovery and security strategies

Install and support DBMS (Database Management Systems) software and tools

Perform various database activities which include monitoring, tuning, capacity planning, troubleshooting, and consulting

Translate a logical data model or user specifications into a physical design

Ensure the detailed physical design of data structures and database complies with enterprise standards, guidelines, policies, procedures, and processes

Create physical database structures based on physical design for development, test, and production environments

Coordinate with system engineers to configure servers for DBMS product installation and database creation

Install, configure, and maintain DBMS product software on database and application servers

Provide consultation to application development teams on DBMS product technical issues and techniques

Responsible for database performance tuning, security, and database backup/recovery strategy

Implement monitoring procedures to maximize availability and performance of the database, while meeting defined targets

Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve database problems

Coordinate downtime with the application development teams and system engineers to implement approved changes

Create and maintain high performance, scalable, and stable database solutions

Work with customer, deployment squads, and product management to identify and document use case scenarios

Lead on all data solution aspects including setting data standards and providing your deep technical expertise to development teams for best practices, systems, and architectures

Design databases solutions that are highly available and meet disaster recovery requirements

Design effective data store solutions that account for effective capacity planning, data tiering, and data life-cycle management

Design, develop and maintain automated systems for process for AWS Cloud based products and services

Troubleshoot issues with automations and ensure efficient solutions

Collaborate with team members for effective and efficient automations

Evaluate existing automation process and identify area of improvement

Monitor and validate performance and functionality of the automated processes to ensure the objectives of automation are met

Develop and maintain documentation for the automated processes and ensure knowledge transfer

Mentor other team members on new technologies and automation process

Work with QA to create detailed test plans and needed tooling to account targeted performance for production volume data

Ensure the successful delivery of solutions, training, and documentation, internally and with customers

Recommend solutions to improve new and existing database systems

Participate in code reviews and create documentation for engineering and cross-functional practices

Work with cross-functional teams to ensure end-to-end technical and business viability

Learn new database technologies as necessary

Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a technical or scientific field, with five plus years applicable experience in IT or three plus years of in-depth experience in the design, implementation, administration, and support of a database

Experience with operating systems software, networking tools, application development, multidimensional tools, knowledge of relational databases, logical modeling, and data warehouse

Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of employees and management, capable of successful formal and informal communication, speaks and writes clearly and understandably at the right level

Seen as a direct, truthful individual, can present the unvarnished truth in an appropriate and helpful manner, keeps confidences, admits mistakes, and doesn't misrepresent him/herself for personal gain

Ability to work well in a collaborative setting, supporting work team by volunteering for and completing assignments, acting as a positive team member by contributing to discussions, developing and maintaining both formal and informal relationships enterprise-wide, defines success in terms of the entire team through mentoring and knowledge transfer

Demonstrated commitment to increasing knowledge and skills in current technical/functional area, keeping up to date on technical developments, staying informed as to industry practices, knowing how to apply relevant technical processes to appropriate business needs

Demonstrated desire to dedicate time and energy to accomplish goals, tasks, assignments, etc. Will do what it takes to get things done

Knowledge of policies, general practices, procedures, etc. relevant for the area in which he/she works

Ability to accurately scope out length and difficulty of tasks and projects, break down work into the process steps, develop schedules, anticipate and adjust for problems and roadblocks

Able to use rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions, probe all fruitful sources for answers, can see hidden problems, excellent at honest analysis, looks beyond the obvious and doesn't stop at the first answer

Able to deliver quality work on time, translate planning into action by following applicable established procedures or methodologies, proactively monitor and control task status by collecting and analyzing task data to anticipate and address barriers, appropriately communicate and resolve or escalate any problems that arise

Desired skills:
