Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Linux Systems Administrator to join our team supporting the infrastructure needs of a local government agency. This position focuses on managing and maintaining Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems, with responsibilities in Kubernetes (K8s) administration and ELK stack maintenance. The role will involve mostly system administration with some cloud infrastructure work, as we continue our ongoing migration to the cloud.
Key Responsibilities:
• Manage, configure, and maintain RHEL servers in a production environment.
• Perform regular system patching, updates, and vulnerability management across multiple systems.
• Administer and support Kubernetes clusters, ensuring high availability and scalability.
• Monitor and troubleshoot systems using ELK (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) stack for log management and analysis.
• Work with other teams to ensure system security, optimize performance, and manage backups.
• Assist in ongoing migration of infrastructure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and maintain hybrid infrastructure during the transition.
• Implement automation for system management tasks, ensuring efficiency and repeatability.
• Collaborate with DevOps and security teams to streamline deployment processes and maintain compliance with government regulations.
• Support disaster recovery planning, including testing failover capabilities and restoring operations in case of failure.
Required Qualifications:
• 3-5 years of experience in Linux systems administration (preferably RHEL).
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (K8s) administration and orchestration.
• Experience with the ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) for monitoring and log analysis.
• Strong knowledge of system patching, updates, and security management in an enterprise environment.
• Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or similar.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Google Cloud Platform (GCP) experience is a strong plus.
• Certifications in RHEL, Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD), and/or Google Cloud are highly desirable.
• Experience in cloud migrations or hybrid cloud environments.
Additional Information:
• This position is based on-site in Indianapolis, Indiana, working with the local government IT department.
