Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Program Manager to lead a complex, enterprise-level mainframe modernization program for a long-standing mission-critical system. This role requires orchestrating multiple workstreams across a comprehensive technological transformation, including operating system migration, database modernization, and vendor technology transitions. The ideal candidate will combine technical acumen with exceptional program management capabilities to drive this strategic initiative while maintaining operational stability.
Key Responsibilities
Direct the overall execution of a multi-year mainframe modernization program.
Develop and maintain comprehensive program roadmaps aligned with business objectives.
Establish and oversee program governance frameworks.
Lead cross-functional teams through complex technical transitions.
Manage dependencies between multiple project streams including z/OS to z/Linux migration, IMS to DB2 conversion, and Broadcom product phase-out.
Strategic Planning & Execution
Create and maintain integrated program plans that align with existing release cycles.
Develop detailed resource allocation strategies across multiple workstreams.
Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and success metrics.
Monitor and report on program progress, risks, and opportunities.
Implement risk mitigation strategies to ensure program success.
Drive cost optimization initiatives while maintaining program momentum.
Stakeholder Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with executive stakeholders.
Facilitate decision-making processes across organizational boundaries.
Lead executive steering committee meetings and status reviews.
Manage expectations and communicate program impact across all levels.
Coordinate with vendors and third-party partners.
Financial Management
Oversee program budgets and resource allocation.
Track and report on program financials and benefits realization.
Identify and implement cost optimization opportunities.
Manage vendor contracts and deliverables.
Required Qualifications
12+ years of program management experience.
5+ years leading large-scale mainframe modernization initiatives.
Proven track record of successful program delivery in complex IT environments.
Experience with:
Mainframe technology transformations.
Database migration projects.
Operating system transitions.
Release management integration.
Strong understanding of mainframe architectures and technologies.
PMP certification or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
z/OS and z/Linux environments.
IMS and DB2 migrations.
Agile program management methodologies.
DevOps transformations.
Additional certifications (e.g., ITIL, Agile, TOGAF).
Background in change management.
