Job Description

Department: School of Engineering / Job Family: Information Technology

 

Location: They will accept a remote-only candidate that is close to the NE area, available for EST hours, has extension SCCM experience and reliable. Their ideal is someone local, but they want "the best".

 

Mode: Temp through the end of the year. The team is nearly done with an FTE search, but needs immediate coverage to bridge the gap and to support the surge of Fall.

 

Profile: They need an expert in Microspft SCCM - someone who has "packaged" apps to ready for automated deployment on computers. That is the sole purpose of this role so the most crucial - the team does not want to see candidates who have "manually" added applications to computers...they must have "packaged" or automated the process from end to end.

 

Process: Submission notes outlining candidate's microsoft SCCM pakaging and end to end experience > 30-45 minute Zoom session w/manager (David Mycue) - verification - Start (will need to provision/ship equipment if not local.

 

Formal JD (although the selected candidate will focus on Microsoft SCCM Packaging Process)

 

Manage, maintain and support the School of Engineering (SoE), and related, AD domain-based computing infrastructure, including software installation, licensing, configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting.

 

Implement and support educational, research and administrative systems and applications, assuring that all security, auditing, and restart/recovery functions are properly operating.

 

Monitor performance and provide capacity planning information. Identify areas where improvements are desirable and suggest improvements.

 

Provide assistance and training to IT Support Consultants and other SoE technical staff, including temps, interns and student workers.

 

Evaluate vendor-supplied software and make buy/build recommendations. Resolve particularly complex or critical technical problems.

 

Function as a project manager as required.

 

Author and maintain relevant documentation as required.

 

Ability to work both independently and as a team member in a complex environment with competing demands.

major responsibilities, functions and/or activities:

 

1.      Major Responsibility: Installation and maintenance of operating systems, applications and related components, programs and packages (50%)

 

Supporting Actions: Perform server and workstation maintenance and software installation and consultation for the large portfolio of core and engineering specific applications across administrative staff, research and instructional lab servers and workstations.

 

Choose versions/releases, determine schedules, and coordinate tasks with other School of Engineering (SoE) IT staff. Resolve software problems with support from the vendor. Maintain running and biennial inventory of computing assets. Communicate operational information to SoE Director of Information technology as necessary.

 

2.      Major Responsibility: Project Management (20%)

 

Supporting Actions: Develop project plans, coordinate and direct project teams, inform management of critical issues and project progress.

 

3.      Major Responsibility: Provide technical support to other SoE staff(15%) University

 

Supporting Actions: Resolve reported problems in a timely manner. Provide technical guidance and support individually and in meetings. Educate & train other staff and develop relevant documentation as part of the problem resolution process. Must be able to resolve particularly complex problems. Perform presentations on technical subjects and identify training needs. Participate constructively in meetings.

 

4.      Major Responsibility: Assume leadership role within SoE IT team (10%)

 

Supporting Actions: Support the Director in leading the work of the team. Lead or        fully in meetings, committees, task forces, etc. Identify areas where improvements are needed and suggest ways to accomplish those improvements.

 

Propose actions, including; software/hardware configuration/parameterization changes, changes to methods, procedures, acquisition of new hardware/software, and documentation. Propose similar actions as part of strategies for preparing for the implementation of new services. Lead or participate in projects to implement solutions.

 

5.      Major Responsibility: Remain current about new and evolving software and hardware products and technology (5%)

 

Supporting Actions: Attend multiple, annual technology trainings, and integrate learnings into workflow. Conduct frequent research using relevant technology resources, and review trade journals to keep current with technology. Participate in electronic bulletin boards and review electronic material available directly from vendors.

 

Decisions that the position is free to make

 

Resolution of problems involving operating systems or related components.

 

Scheduling and coordination of preventative maintenance for operating system or related components

 

System software implementation strategies.

 

Performance and tuning parameter changes.

 

Day-to-day scheduling and shifting of tasks. Decisions that depend on the position's advice:

 

Product integration into existing technology and product upgrade schedules for products that span responsible areas.

 

Cross platform system architecture design and configuration

 

Operational and turnover procedure modifications.

 

Problem resolution.

 

Hardware and software purchases.

 

Dimensions List quantitative measures that define the size and scope of the position

 

Support 80 faculty, 60 adjunct faculty, 0+ administrative staff, 100+ computer lab workstations, 1500 Engineering concentrators, 30 license servers and 2 PB of research data.

 

24X7 on-call responsibility, as member of on-call rotation

 

Engineering staff, faculty and student applications and research data depend on advice and procedures to provide an adequate technical environment.

 

Lead designer and implementer of software architecture for various administrative systems' platforms.

 

Job Qualifications and Competencies

 

Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience.

 

2-3 of experience with systems.

 

In-depth knowledge and experience with Hyper-V Virtualization.

 

Conceptual knowledge of all and in-depth knowledge of some of the following: technical architectures, security, networking, middleware, SDLC, system imaging tools, Azure and Intune.

 

Problem resolution skills; e.g. dump reading, traces, etc.

 

Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (both oral and written).

 

Strong ability to prioritize activities.

 

Demonstrates a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
