Duration: 12 months Contract

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Systems Programmer/DBA to lead and support complex database upgrade projects, installations, testing, implementations, maintenance, and enhancements of system software.
The role involves managing core database products and software to support the County’s database architecture and business needs. This position includes hands-on work with various database systems such as DB2, IMS, and ADABAS/NATURAL.
Key Responsibilities:
Database Management: Plan, install, configure, test, and manage core database products. Ensure the health and performance of hierarchical (IMS), relational (DB2), and file-based (ADABAS) databases.
Technical Support: Provide technical consulting for application and operations teams on database planning and development.
Database Administration: Perform maintenance, performance evaluations, and technical reviews of DBMS systems. Develop and implement backup and recovery procedures, manage database capacity, and handle database reorganizations, replication, compression, and partitioning.
Consultation & Design: Collaborate with project development teams on database design, including creating logical and physical database designs and overviews.
Monitoring & Performance: Monitor database performance and space usage, and perform evaluations for new or existing DBMS software.
Skills Required:
Technical Skills: Proficiency with IBM mainframe technologies, including Z/OS, IMS, DB2, ADABAS, SMP/E, JCL, IMS DB/DC, CICS, ACF2, Assembler, COBOL, REXX, IBM FILE MANAGER, DELTA/IMS, NATURAL/SUPERNAT, ENTIREX, CA SPOOL, IMS & DB2 BMC Tools, N20/TRIM.
Database Management: Expertise in DB2, IMS, and ADABAS databases, including performance tuning, capacity planning, and technical consulting.
Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and experience with database evaluations and optimization.
Skills Preferred:
Advanced Experience: Senior-level experience with DB2/IMS/MQ and advanced DBA skills. Familiarity with SMP/E, Z/OSMF, MQ, and additional mainframe technologies.
Programming Languages: Proficiency in Assembler and COBOL.
Experience Required:
Professional Experience: Minimum of seven years in Systems Programming/DBA roles, with at least three years in a lead position.
Experience Preferred:
Extensive Experience: Ten years of experience with Z/OS system programming and mainframe DBA skills.
Education Required:
Degree: Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related or engineering field.
Additional Information:
Work Arrangement: The position will initially be on-site for a few months, transitioning to a remote arrangement with periodic on-site requirements as directed.
