At Houston Methodist, the IT Project Manager I position is an entry level project manager position and is one of learning. The IT Project Manager I is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating activities of small to medium scale and complexity technology projects under guidance of management. With oversight from department management, ensures that goals and objectives of projects are accomplished within prescribed time frame, funding parameters and requirements. Executes the project plans and activities following project management best practices ensuring quality and integrity of the information throughout the entire life cycle of the project. The focus and assignments of the Project Manager I are projects that are established and repeatable year over year.

This role will focus primarily on evaluating project performance, long term value creation and financial return on investment as well as helping the Director of Innovation with day to day management of the Center for Innovation and Tech Hub.

PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Under guidance of management, ensures project outcomes match agreed upon customer expectations.

Effectively communicates project information to stakeholders through agreed upon channels and timelines.

Leads project-related meetings and gains consensus on outcomes and goals.

SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Under guidance of management, plans and organizes projects.

Assists with formulating and defining scope and objectives of the project.

Determines time frame, funding limitations, and procedures for accomplishing project(s) according to Portfolio and Process Management Office guidelines . Identifies and schedules project deliverables, milestones, and required tasks.

QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Establishes the project quality plan, including the application of PMO testing standards.

Under guidance of management, establishes the project risks and mitigation plans.

Adheres to standards and procedures for project initiation, planning, execution, control, monitoring, and closure defined by the Portfolio & Process Management Office.

FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Prepares the Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) for the project and assists IT Financial Analyst(s) with the approval process.

Manage Purchase Orders (PO) and invoices throughout the project life cycle.

Closes all project expenditures at the end of the project.

GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Proposes opportunities to improve the Portfolio & Process Management Office and participates in improvement initiatives.

Proactively manages own professional development and completes Individual Development Plan (IDP).

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related discipline with an information technology focus or four years of experience managing small to medium scale projects required in lieu of degree

Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security

Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles

Project management skills with ability to multitask and manage multiple projects in a cross-functional environment

Ability to deliver projects using leading-edge technology

Solid knowledge of current technologies

Solid knowledge and understanding of business needs, with the ability to establish and maintain a high level of customer trust and confidence

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively facilitate meetings.

Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills

Ability to operate under a dual reporting relationship (IT, customers)

Solid knowledge in Microsoft Office products
