Overview:
We are seeking a full-time Technical Lead Mechanical Engineer in our Cary, NC location. In this role, you will be responsible for serving as a key technical contributor in major product development or mechanical solutions for significant new applications of known technology.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
Serves as a key contributor in the review of CAD assemblies for technical feasibility and applying experience to risky design aspects of product development
Explores new technologies, features and functions, understand and outline the associated challenges and risks
Utilizes advanced testing capabilities and knowledge of materials to customize existing or develop new test methods to substantiate unverified aspects of product designs
Interprets industry and Garmin product qualification tests and their relevance and impact on product design, sharing knowledge with mechanical design team members
Completes estimates on complex and risky mechanical designs including tooling, part cost and design time
Negotiates processes, materials and design feasibility with factory and vendors
Provides significant contribution to design reviews across multiple product types, offers process improvements, authors new procedures, and demonstrates broad understanding of Garmin’s business model including operations, production, sales and marketing
May lead major explorations or product development project consisting of multiple modules or sub-projects
Overseas travel as required
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering AND a minimum of 9 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
Desired Qualifications
Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
Electronic packaging design experience
