Overview:
The Computer Technician Lead provides computer support to their assigned area, department, or college by troubleshooting technical issues and researching, designing, and implementing IT systems to facilitate the department's goals. This position will support the staff of Housing, Dining, the Card Office and the students that live within on-campus Housing. 

Responsibilities:
Maintain and monitor the security of access control and camera systems, ensuring they function properly and meet security requirements.

Install, maintain, repair, and request upgrades to computer hardware, software, network equipment, and peripheral equipment to meet needs.

Provide end-user support services for Staff, and Students.

Provide support over the phone, when required, to both staff and students.

Support the daily technical performance for assigned Departments.

Closely monitor software licenses; keep software updated and legal.

Coordinate work with vendors when necessary.

Assist in maintaining databases, servers, and other technology needs for the assigned department.

Create disk images and install them on computers or external hard drives.

Provide technical support and instruction, across a range of Windows and Mac platforms.

Monitor and manage technology performance and maintain security protocols by ensuring security procedures are implemented, up to date, enforced, and resolved when necessary.

Assist in maintaining an active inventory of all computers, network, and related equipment.

Assess effectiveness and methods of execution of IT resources and services.

Prepare written communication and reports as necessary.

Interact with numerous computer platforms in a multi-layered client-server environment. Ensure desktop computers interconnect seamlessly with diverse systems, including file servers, email servers, computer conferencing systems, application systems, etc.

Work with staff to determine current and future technology needs.

Dispose of obsolete, damaged, or broken hardware.

Install, clean, and maintain computers and related equipment.

Troubleshoot, repair and replace cable TV hardware.

Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

Four years of experience in a related field or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

A+ Certification and Dell/Apple Certification

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to analyze and solve complex problems.

Ability to install, configure, maintain, and repair computer equipment and software, including associated peripherals.

Knowledge of access control and camera systems, including maintenance and security protocols.

Knowledge of networks and networking principles.

Ability to effectively use and apply computer systems principles and computer electronics principles.

Ability to read diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals for repair diagnostic information.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.

Ability to prioritize multiple workflows.

Skilled at responding professionally, effectively, and efficiently to customer service requests.

Knowledge of administration and maintenance principles of network servers, relational databases, and web- and windows-based software applications.

Knowledge of network hardware, software, and peripheral equipment troubleshooting techniques.

Excellent customer service skills.

The environment and physical requirements may change depending on the specific function of the work each department performs. Incumbents may be in both indoor and outdoor environments. Indoors, in an office space, event space, or public space are protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. Incumbents may nearly continuously sit and often use repetitive hand motion (such as typing).  

Outdoors, incumbents may not be protected from weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold. Additionally, indoor or outdoor work environments may include being confined or in narrow spaces for periods of time. The incumbent may also be exposed to loud noises or vibrations from equipment, and conditions that may affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation. Bending, crawling, and crouching may be required. Incumbents may be required to lift, push, and/or pull objects up to 50 pounds and be required to walk and/or stand for long periods of time. Climbing on ladders may also be required. Employees must adhere to safety precautions and may be required to use protective equipment.
