Responsibilities:
State Farm is seeking a Technical Architect to help lead the Vehicle product team as part of our Personal Lines Auto Modernization effort where we are migrating away from our legacy systems and instead leveraging Guidewire’s PolicyCenter product as our policy administration system.  This team is responsible for managing the Vehicle screen inside of PolicyCenter, all of the associated vehicle-related processing behind-the-scenes necessary to quote and bind transactions, and then various other vehicle-related business rules and capabilities.  The logic this team owns is contained within PolicyCenter (written in Gosu) and then within our outbound integration service (written in Java) which receives and directs PolicyCenter requests to and from various downstream supplier services.  The technical topology around this team is fairly broad and will require dedicated technical architecture focus as we look to manage our state rollout and ongoing enhancements.  You would be coming into a critical role on a critical team on State Farm’s most critical work effort!

Primary duties will include the following:

Regular engagement with team members and business partners to understand requirements for current and upcoming work impacting our product team

Influence high-level design for larger work intake requests containing scope impacting the Vehicle product team

Evaluate requirements for new work intake requests for the Vehicle product team team, assess them for architectural impact, and then develop low-level design for their related technical solutions in meeting business and/or technical needs

Drive technical architecture and decision making for shared work across our neighboring teams and downstream supplier teams

Working with vendors such as Guidewire for architectural direction and solutions

Consistently help establish/maintain/prioritize a healthy product backlog in partnership with other key team members

Collaborate with Software Engineers as they deliver software changes, assist them with resolving challenges, and review/accept work prior to deploying to production

Partner with other Technical Architects in various settings in helping influence the strategic direction of technical solutions common to all Personal Lines Auto Modernization product teams

Regular engagement with production support team members to help troubleshoot current issues and identify future technical improvements to our product

Qualifications:
Required Skills:

Current or former technical architecture experience, or at least a strong technical lead who has demonstrated an ability to develop and apply architectural concepts within their work

Experience in designing and/or delivering solutions in PolicyCenter

Deep experience with object-oriented programming languages (especially Java and/or Gosu)

Experience with REST and SOAP web services

Deep familiarity with CI/CD and test automation

Strong communication skills – both verbal and written

Ability to articulate ideas or concepts and influence others

Works well within a team environment

Proven ability to establish relationships and collaborate across teams

Self-starter who takes initiative and seeks out ways to contribute beyond assigned responsibilities

Adaptability and learning agility in shifting between tasks or responsibilities due to changing business or technical needs
