Summary:

Under general supervision of the Senior Analytics team members and Analytics leadership team Business Intelligence Analyst II is responsible for the delivery of analytics solutions to end users that facilitate informed decision making. Promotes data literacy by educating customers to use data as a tool for improving MyMichigan processes, patient outcomes and engagement. Uses development tools to generate reports, dashboards and analytical solutions according to business rules and specifications. Splits time between projects and support activities while adhering to MyMichigan Health's policies, procedures, and business operations. Able to quickly adapt to changing priorities and maintain high quality work. Demonstrated ability to work independently and/or in a team to train, guide, or assist others to perform complex assignments. Performs in-depth analysis of workflows, data collection, report details, and reviews and tests software. Provides subject matter expertise for two or more application modules/ data models or data analysis tools. Has previous healthcare EMR application experience or certification or healthcare analytics experience including use of Excel, SQL or a data visualization software. Understands exploratory data versus explanatory data and can present data findings to a wide variety of audiences. Analysts can turn data into information or insights that assist in answering the business question or problem.

Responsibilities:

(35%)* Collaborate and support MyMichigan reporting needs. Work with internal customers to identify reporting needs, gather and document requirements, build and test reports, dashboards, and analytical solutions. Designs simple to complex queries or analysis using structured query language and ensures analytic methodologies are followed and makes recommendations where necessary. Assist other technical team members with query, report design, and analysis design. Assists in cross training team members and users. Proactively shares knowledge with other team members. Communicate with third-party vendors and regulatory organizations to understand and manage data requirements and deliverables and facilitates information sharing with other team members.

 

(15%)*Leads medium to large support or project initiatives. Responsible for leading the efforts of medium to large initiatives including planning the work and managing the effort to the plan. Leverages support of others in completing the tasks on time.

 

(30%)* Support, Trouble-shooting and Problem solving. Support existing portfolio of reports, dashboards, analytical solutions and tune where necessary. Support and troubleshoot existing ETL processes and complex data development needs. Leads efforts to resolve identified data integrity issues and communicates identified issues with collaborating teams, Business and Clinical leaders. Responsibility in assisting with process optimization. Leads collaborative communication with Database Administrators when technically complex solutions are required.

 

(10%)*Collaborate and support department data consolidation and expanding/extending data warehousing to meet organizational needs. Develop Extract, Transformation, and Load processes from source EMR systems into consolidated healthcare reporting systems utilizing tools like Microsoft SQL Server and SQL Server Integration Services SSIS or develops and/or collaborates to create data visualizations using Tableau or an Epic based tool that are easily consumed by end users and leaders.

 

(10%)*System Configuration Changes and Modifications Participate in testing reports and extracts during system or business changes. Participate in product upgrades and implementations including occasional weekend or after-hours coverage.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Takes notes during meetings and is able to identify when issue escalation is required.

Continue to learn the software and increase their knowledge over time.

Expected that Epic Certifications are maintained and expanded over time.

Employees are required to take a Computer Skills Assessment via the learning management system upon hire. Based on the results of the assessment, an employee may be required to participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health.

 

Certifications and Licensures:
N/A

Required Education:
Associates Degree with five or more years computer related experience required and 3 or more years of experience focused on healthcare data analysis or electronic health record application support.

 

Bachelors degree preferred upon hire or transfer and must commit to obtain within three (3) years. Degree in IT, business, or health care field preferred.

Other Information:

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS

 Epic Certified in at least 1 application area or Tableau or other data visualization tool certification required.

 

Preferably three (3) or more years of experience developing applications/reports within Epic, a Business Intelligence tool or Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, DB2 or other required tools.

 

Proficiency in SQL or expertise in business intelligence analytics tools ability to develop complex T-SQL or PL/SQL statements and stored procedures or custom data visualization design and build.

 

Extensive experience with reporting tools such as Tableau, Einstein, JMP, Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS); Crystal Reports or Business Objects.

 

Knowledge of relational database design and ability to understand relational data models or expert skills in data analysis and complex dashboard build and design.

 

Proficiency in data manipulation and extraction techniques.

 

Experience or understanding of Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) technology, Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) preferred.

 

Experience with integrating data from heterogeneous systems (flat files, Excel as well as relational database systems.)

 

Team orientation, project leadership, problem solving, and communication skills required.

 

Ability to both explore and explain data analysis to collaborating teams.

 

Proficient with Microsoft Excel.

 

Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with ability to collaborate at multiple organization levels across the health system as required, including both technical and non-technical staff.

 

Epic trained and / or certified preferred.

 

Project management experience is preferred.

 

Working knowledge of data models from EMRs and/or healthcare.

 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.

 

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.

Can move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.

Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material.  Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling.  May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Physical Demand Level: Sedentary.  Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 0-10 lbs.
