Job Summary:

The Controls Technician - Systems Software Engineer II is responsible for applying technical knowledge and experience to program databases, develop custom graphics, and install these into Building Management Systems (BMS) for assigned projects. The role includes supporting startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting processes. A strong understanding of computer-operated systems, including network types, is essential. The candidate will also document all field conditions and commissioning processes and work closely with the Project Manager and Project Engineering staff to ensure timely and successful project completion.

Essential Functions:

Systems Development: Lead in developing lower and mid-level control systems databases and programs.

Commissioning Support: Execute initial point-to-point commissioning activities and participate in final systems functional testing, including LEED and Title 24 testing.

Troubleshooting: Address and resolve issues related to local and wide area networks.

Testing: Use computer hardware and software to perform pre-functional testing of system software code based on design sequences of operations.

Vendor Integration: Develop skills for effective 3rd party integrations with various vendor products, systems, and protocols.

Field Coordination: Lead field coordination with installing subcontractors and attend field project and commissioning meetings.

Training and Turnover: Lead end-user/customer system training and manage the systematic turnover of the project to the Service team.

Documentation: Assist Design Engineers with validating sequence of operations against contract requirements.

Project Management: Coordinate with project staff to ensure accurate and timely recording of project costs, manage field time, and adhere to project budgets.

Safety: Complete OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 safety training classes and participate in the office safety program.

Mentorship: Coach, mentor, and develop junior Systems Software Engineers.

Education and Experience:

Associate degree in a technical field or 2-5 years of related work experience in building automation systems required.

Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred.

Strong mechanical aptitude and technical school training.

Proficiency in MS Office, Windows, and basic TCP/IP network structure.

Valid California drivers license required.

Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and deliver high-quality results.
