ON SITE REQUIRED: Currently, the VSP team generally works 4 days on site and 1 day off based on the Governor’s directive. This is subject to change in either direction. Depending on project demands, there may be weeks where on-site presence is required 5 days a week. Candidates need to plan to be on site 4 days a week and be available as needed.
About the Role
The Virginia State Police is seeking a Web Developer in the IT Division. Reporting to the Website Coordinator, this position joins a highly dynamic and results-oriented team. The role is pivotal in providing enhancements and security for multiple WordPress applications, supporting highway safety, emergency messaging, lead acquisition, and several public outreach programs. Responsibilities include:
Working across the full stack to build, maintain, and optimize scalable, distributed features and solutions for positive user experiences across desktop and mobile.
Developing new features in support of business and project requirements.
Managing vendor support as needed for maintenance and enhancement.
Working with agile development methodologies, adhering to best practices, and pursuing continued learning opportunities.
Requirements
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in information sciences, computer science, or a related field; considerable software implementation experience.
Proficiency in PHP.
Understanding of WordPress architecture.
Understanding of SQL.
Understanding of REST API.
Ability to work as a team member on web development projects end-to-end.
Proven knowledge of back-end/infrastructure maintenance and optimization and UX/UI principles.
Knowledge of front-end technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Knowledge of secure coding practices.
Outstanding communication skills.
Skills
Considerable software implementation experience: Required, 5 Years
