This Job:
Title: Database Administrator (DBA)

 

The DBA performs many related database functions across one or more teams or clients. This includes planning, designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining databases and/or instances. Creation and modification of disaster recovery plans and configuration management. The candidate will be responsible for providing input for the modification of procedures, updating documentation used for problem resolution, and day-to-day maintenance. 

What You’ll Do:
Install, configure, test, and patch SQL Server Instance.

Manage SQL Server databases and managed instances. 

Ensure recoverability and adequate disaster recovery of databases. 

Provide guidance and standards for the maintenance and administration of databases to ensure high availability. 

Monitor SQL Agent jobs and respond to critical job notifications on failure.

Determine and provide for the documentation of tools, techniques, processes, and procedures for orderly maintenance of databases, including backup, archival, recovery, etc. 

Provide project leadership for various database initiatives and direction and guidance of database monitoring and space utilization and performance; designs and provides guidelines for requisite performance testing. 

Serve as a representative to internal and external forums for database problem resolution. 

Troubleshoot and resolve problems with production systems; escalate issues and facilitate resolution.

Configure SQL Server monitoring utilities to minimize false alarms and troubleshoot service outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends as needed. 

Identify resource-intensive queries, suggest improvements, and assist in tuning queries. 

Assist systems staff with day-to-day operational duties. 

Communicate with other departments as needed to resolve any problems/questions. 

Assist with conversion from legacy applications to new relational database applications. 

Assist with the implementation of large pre-developed systems. 

Automate common management tasks using PowerShell.

Evaluate data access and security to ensure that electronic data resources are available to those who need access and protected.

Automate database Management tasks.

What You’ll Need to be a Top Candidate:
Education: 

Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or similiar. 

Experience:

Minimum of five (5) years with SQL Server. 

Minimum of five (5) years with Application development experience of complex T-SQL stored procedures and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS). 

Good analytical & problem-solving skills and interest in learning and applying new technologies.

Other Skills:

Knowledge of relational database software technology and database environments. 
Strong verbal and written communication skills. 

Ability to program in SQL. 
Ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels of the organization. 

Ability to anticipate and resolve problems. 

Ability to work under time constraints and meet deadlines. 

Ability to work with minimal supervision. 

Ability to adhere to all organizational policies and procedures. 

 

 

Your Environment:
Working Conditions: Normal business office environment.  Must be able to remain in a stationary position for periods of time while constantly operating a computer and or other office productivity machinery such as a calculator or telephone.  The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery or communicate with coworkers.

 

Travel: As required.
