Job Title: Senior Data Scientist

Position Type: Full-time

Location: 100% Remote (USA)

Note: US Citizenship is contractually required for this role

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Data Scientist to lead and contribute to complex data analytics projects and technology implementations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data science, advanced analytics, and technical expertise in handling large datasets. They will lead teams, mentor junior data scientists, and develop robust data-driven solutions using advanced statistical, machine learning, and data manipulation techniques.

This role requires deep experience with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data, database development, and proficiency with programming languages and tools such as Python, R, SQL, Tableau, AWS, and more. Candidates should also have a solid understanding of scaling data models across both small and big data environments.

Key Responsibilities

Apply pattern-recognition techniques to large, diverse data sets (structured, semi-structured, unstructured) for data wrangling and optimization. Develop and implement advanced models to solve organizational challenges.

Automate the extraction, transformation, cleaning, normalization, and organization of data from disparate sources. Design and maintain efficient databases using SQL and manage complex queries, subqueries, joins, and optimizations.

Develop solutions using programming languages and tools such as Python, R, SAS, Tableau, and AWS, among others.

Lead data science teams, mentor junior staff, and provide training on complex analytical techniques and tools. Facilitate analysis, risk assessment, and decision-making processes.

Build databases and manage both small and big data environments, with a thorough understanding of the trade-offs and optimization required for scaling algorithms across different environments.

Work with cross-functional teams and communicate insights clearly through written, verbal, and visual methods. Conduct educational sessions on data analysis and best practices.

Possess working knowledge of federal grant-making policies and procedures. Ensure all models and processes comply with regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in data science, including advanced analytics, database development, and data manipulation. Proven experience with the responsibilities outlined above, including leading teams.

Proficiency in data wrangling, modeling, data mining, and database design using SQL and tools like Python, R, SAS, Tableau, and AWS.

Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.

Excellent problem-solving, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.

Strong leadership ability, capable of working independently and guiding teams effectively.

Ability to handle complex tasks with a high level of attention to detail.

Expertise in identifying issues and managing risk within data-related processes.

Substitution Criteria

10 years of relevant experience in data science and related fields.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
