At Houston Methodist, the IT Portfolio Manager position is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating a collection of projects, programs and operational work to fulfill strategic business objectives of an organization within prescribed time frame, funding parameters and requirements. Organizes and prioritizes the portfolio of activities directly with IT Management working closely with IT Vice Presidents and Executives. Coordinates and manages activities of project managers assigned to support the portfolio.
PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Oversees IT projects to ensure that outcomes match customer expectations and outcomes.
Validates project prioritization with IT Leadership.
Provides advice to management on balancing portfolio of projects.
Coordinates projects prioritization meetings with IT management.
SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Plans and organizes the portfolio of activities for Ambulatory Provider, Acute Care, Corporate Business or Infrastructure. Coordinates project activities with activities of business unit(s).
Directs and coordinates activities of Project Managers to ensure projects progress on schedule, within budget and to expected quality and scope.
Prepares consolidated reports on portfolio status for IT Management.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Supports senior management with adherence to Business Case standards and procedures for the IT Governance process through ongoing coaching and review.
Partners with Project Managers to organize project deliverables and key milestones within a portfolio.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Partners with Project Managers to ensure projects within the portfolio stay on budget.
Ensures all projects within the portfolio have properly closed project expenditures.
Reports on consolidated information to senior management.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSProposes opportunities to improve the Portfolio & Process Management Office.
Lead improvement initiatives by planning, implementing and ensuring adoption.
Proactively manages own professional development and completes Individual Development Plan (IDP).

EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related discipline with an information technology focus.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Eight years of successful experience in managing a portfolio of activities related to IT an area to fulfill strategic business objectives, preferably in a healthcare environment.

Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.
Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
Project management skills with ability to multitask and manage multiple projects in a cross-functional environment.
Ability to deliver projects using leading-edge technology.
Strong knowledge of current technologies.
Strong knowledge and understanding of business needs, with the ability to establish and maintain a high level of customer trust and confidence.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively facilitate meetings.
