Overview:
Responsible for independently providing specific systems consulting, systems analysis, and overall leadership related to the acquisition and use of complex Clinical computing applications. Applies in-depth professional knowledge to ensure effective and optimal use of current Clinical systems, incorporation of refinements in applications based on organization changes or process improvements, and collaboration with Application Managers, IT and Department Directors to identify and select new system solutions. Manages all phases of large and small Clinical-IT related projects.
Responsibilities:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Clinical System Design & Architecture:
Develop scalable and efficient EMR and other clinical systems architecture aligned with clinical needs.
Collaborate with clinical teams to design workflows that improve efficiency and patient care.
2. EMR/Clinical System Implementation:
Lead entire lifecycle implementations, including system configuration, testing, and Go-Live support.
Ensure smooth data migration and system deployment with minimal clinical disruption.
3. Clinical Workflow Optimization:
Analyze and optimize existing clinical workflows within the EMR/Clinical system to enhance usability and efficiency.
Implement decision support tools (e.g., order sets, alerts) to improve patient safety.
4. System Integration & Interoperability:
Ensure EMR interoperability with other healthcare systems (e.g., Lab, Radiology, Pharmacy) using standards like HL7 and FHIR.
Manage data integration and maintain system interfaces.
5. Data Management & Reporting:
Define data structures to ensure accurate clinical data capture and reporting.
Develop custom reports and dashboards for clinical decision-making and compliance.
6. EMR/Clinical System Customization & Configuration:
Configure and customize EMR/Clinical system templates, workflows, and order sets to meet clinical needs.
Maintain system configurations and updates based on user feedback.
7. Training & Support:
Provide training programs for clinical staff, super-users, and administrators.
Offer advanced-level support and troubleshooting for EMR-related issues.
8. Compliance & Security:
Ensure EMR systems comply with healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH).
Conducted audits and managed security protocols for data privacy and protection.
9. Project Management:
Lead EMR projects, from initial planning to execution, ensuring timely delivery and resource management.
Coordinate cross-functional teams and stakeholders to achieve project goals.
10. Vendor & Stakeholder Management:
Act as a liaison with EMR vendors, managing service agreements and system upgrades.
Collaborate with clinical and IT leadership to align EMR solutions with organizational goals.
Qualifications:
EXPERIENCE:
5 to 10 years of relevant Healthcare IT work experience.
Experience with Electronic Medical Records or Electronic Health Record systems.
Experience with other healthcare related systems (i.e., Radiology, Lab, Billing, etc.)
Experience using presentation software, word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
Flexible scheduling to support needs for unplanned downtime and project implementation.;
REQUIREMENTS:
Maintains the highest level of expertise and competence in the proper operation and optimal use of complex Clinical application systems.
Ensure that the supported systems are compatible with, and supportive of, the overall information needs of organization.
Provide technical support and system administration for complex modules, in order to ensure overall data integrity and performance. Functions include designing/building specific pathways, order sets, etc.
Manages or participates in various projects, including new application/system selection, implementation, benefits realization, and re-engineering processes using accepted project management techniques and tools, e.g., Microsoft Project.
Provide analysis, develop technical plans and perform application and module upgrades to ensure organization stays compliant with vendor support guidelines.
Conducts end-user training on various clinical applications utilized throughout the hospital, aligning training material and project plans with Information Technology to fulfill training requirements. Ensures all training materials are prepared in advance of classroom sessions.
Assumes responsibility for curriculum design, including training materials, classroom exercises, assessments/testing, and learning modules to enhance providers' comprehension of the EHR system.
Utilizes diverse communication techniques to raise awareness of the EHR system among hospital stakeholders, fostering a comprehensive understanding.
Adapts and enhances existing materials to align with evolving hospital needs and audience expectations, continuously improving and supporting system upgrades essential for hospital operations.
Acts as a liaison between Clinical Informatics and Information Technology to guarantee the fulfillment of training requirements.
Develops operational workflows using industry best practices acquired through training to ensure seamless alignment with operating procedures.
Participates in business and clinical operations meetings to assess end-user feedback, enabling the update of future training curricula and the recommendation of system optimizations and operational enhancements.
Assists in communicating important updates to designated groups, including new workflows, system availability, and potential downtime, ensuring all stakeholders are informed.
Will participate in after-hour on-call rotation support of critical hospital systems.
