IT Systems Engineer

Skillsets Required:

Experience with Hyper-V: Setup, configuration, and management, particularly in replacing VMware.

Experience in Virtual Machine Migration: Transferring virtual machines from VMware to Hyper-V.

AWS (Amazon Web Services): Experience with setting up and maintaining Windows and Linux servers in AWS, and tasks like disk size expansion.

Linux and Windows Server Management: General setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Ivanti Security Controls: Patching of workstations and servers.

Troubleshooting and managing installations and upgrades for R, VSCode, and Python on Windows desktops.

Security Group Cleanup: Active Directory (AD) and AWS security groups management.

Active Directory Cleanup: Cleanup and management of Active Directory objects.

General system maintenance: Including disk space cleanup, consolidation of group policy projects, etc. .

Certifications (Industry Standards):

Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (or relevant certification for Hyper-V/Windows environments).

AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate (for managing AWS environments).

CompTIA Security+ or equivalent cybersecurity certification (considering the FBI check requirement and maintaining system security).

Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC) for Linux systems management.

Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) (preferred for roles involving system security in AWS and other environments).

Years of Experience:

5-7 years of experience as a systems engineer or in a similar IT role involving both Windows and Linux servers.

2-3 years of experience with cloud-based infrastructure (AWS) and virtual environments like Hyper-V and VMware.

3-5 years of experience with Windows desktop/server patch management and group policy management .

Education:

A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is standard for this role. Some positions might accept equivalent experience in lieu of a formal degree.

A Master's Degree in a related field can be beneficial but is typically not required unless specified by the contracting agency.

Other Industry-Specific Considerations:

Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell or Bash for automation and troubleshooting tasks in both Windows and Linux environments.

Experience with ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) frameworks or certifications could be beneficial for managing system processes and service improvements.
