Responsibilities:
The Information Technology department is seeking a high-performing individual to join our team as an IT Support Specialist II – VoIP and Analog Telephony Specialist.

 

Key Responsibilities

Convert legacy analog phone systems to VoIP.

Deploy VoIP, analog, and conference phones as well as underlying connectivity.

Monitor service desk telephone tickets, determine incident priority, evaluate team availability and capacity, and assign ticketed tasks.

Punch down 66/110 blocks and terminate network patch panels.

Schedule and execute service Moves/Adds/Changes in the context of customer location, operational schedules, and provisioning SLA targets.

Develop and maintain lifecycle management process to track procurement, receipt, storage, movement, and disposal of physical and logical assets.

Organize, maintain inventory, and secure physical assets and supplies in designated storage facilities.

Install punch down blocks and cross connects in telephone rooms when required.

Install, test, and certify 25-pair, network cabling, single and multimode optical fiber, and associated wiring.

Stock and maintain tools, equipment, and supplies in work locations and vehicles.

Oversee VoIP (Avaya and Cisco) deployment and conversion projects to digitally transform enterprise telephony.

Develop plans for network and telephone hardware replacement and prepare project schedule.

Install and maintain AC and DC uninterruptible power supply systems.

Document system changes as part of broader Change and Configuration Management process well as provide documentation for new systems as needed.

Perform other duties assigned by Management.

Qualifications:
Associates degree in MIS, Computer Science or equivalent, with at least one year of related experience.

Experience with POTS lines, punch-down jacks, punch-down blocks, cross-connects, and 25-pair cable.

Experience with VoIP phone installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.

Capable of rewiring telephone main distribution frames (MDF's), Amphenol cabling and terminations, termination blocks, and wire wraps.

Knowledge of copper and fiber cable color codes.

Knowledge of grounding and bonding copper infrastructure.

Knowledge of horizontal and backbone cabling pathway systems.

Capable of programming VoIP gateways, building and configuring telephone system chassis, and testing voice system survivability.

Capable of rewiring telephone main distribution frames (MDF's), Amphenol cabling and terminations, termination blocks, and wire wraps.

Knowledge of low voltage circuit concepts.

The primary work location will be at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Work at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada) is required in support of these functions. 

Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change).

Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference , “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

 

Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in , “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Hourly pay range for this position is: $22.14 - $33.21.

 

Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
