Job Description:
CoBank is seeking a Principal DevOps Engineer who is a technology enthusiast and possesses a proven track record of solving complex business challenges. This role requires someone who excels in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and values inclusivity. As a Principal DevOps Engineer at CoBank, you will be responsible for utilizing sophisticated automation techniques to create innovative products on AWS and on-premises infrastructure, while staying current with the latest technological advancements. Your role will be pivotal in integrating development and operations teams smoothly to deliver high-quality software products within the cloud/devops/infrastructure realm. Key responsibilities include designing and architecting CoBank's AWS footprints, implementing Infra as Code and Pipeline as Code using tools like Terraform, and leading complex solution implementations in Kubernetes environment. The Principal DevOps Engineer will demonstrate expert-level knowledge in these technologies and strong leadership skills to guide a team in providing cutting-edge DevOps solutions. The Principal DevOps Engineer will design and architect CoBank's AWS footprints to ensure high availability, scalability, and security. Implement Infra as Code and Pipeline as Code using tools such as Terraform and Kubernetes. Lead the development and implementation of automation solutions for infrastructure and application deployment. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define DevOps best practices and standards. Provide technical expertise, leadership and guidance to team members. Lead complex solution implementations and provide mentorship to junior team members
Essential Functions:
1. Designs and implements highly available and scalable infrastructure on AWS
2. Develops and maintains infrastructure as code using Terraform
3. Implements CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins or Gitlab CI
4. Designs and implements Kubernetes clusters
5. Implements monitoring and logging solutions using tools like Prometheus and ELK stack
6. Collaborates with development teams to ensure proper deployment and testing of applications
7. Troubleshoots and resolves infrastructure and deployment issues
8. Leads and mentors team members on best practices and standards in DevOps
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in computer science, information systems or a relevant discipline preferred
High school diploma or GED required
Work Experience:
8 years of experience in DevOps/SRE/Cloud/IT Operations/SysAdmin engineering, required
7 years of experience supporting a cloud service; preferably, AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure required
1. Ability to build roadmaps; to influence timelines, expectations, and proactively negotiates across departments and functional management.
2. Ability to routinely apply significant independent judgement on moderate and complex business problems.
3. Demonstrated strategic thinking and planning, continuous learning and innovation.
4. Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
5. Proven track record of results.
6. Extensive experience with AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, or other cloud services, reflecting an advanced level of expertise.
7. Any AWS/Azure/GCP Certification (developer, solution architect, networking, infrastructure) (preferred).
8. Expert-level knowledge of AWS services and architecture
9. Strong proficiency with infrastructure as code and configuration management tools (Terraform, Ansible, etc.), as well as in CI/CD tools and pipelines (Github action, Jenkins, Azure DevOps Pipeline)
10. Prior experience with container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes and Docker
11. Strong understanding of networking, security, and compliance in cloud environments
12. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
13. Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead complex solution implementations.
14. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
About CoBank:
The typical base pay range for this role is between $154,057 - $214,216. Compensation may vary based on individual job-related knowledge, skills, expertise, and experience. This position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program driven by organization and individual performance.
