The Texas Health and Human Services Commission is seeking the services of a Database Administrator 2.
This role involves the following responsibilities:
Enter codes to create production databases. Select and enter utility program codes to monitor database performance, such as record distribution and available memory.
Direct programmers and analysts to make changes to the database management system. Review and correct programs, and answer user questions.
Confer with coworkers to determine the impact of database changes on other systems and staff costs for making these changes.
Modify database programs to increase processing performance.
Workers typically specialize in one or more types of database management systems.
Provide assistance in planning, developing, maintaining, and monitoring integrated database systems. Ensure that new applications' conceptual and design phases align with the structural parameters of the database environment.
Evaluate users' requests for new data elements and systems, incorporate them into the existing shared data environment, and provide technical assistance.
Coordinate data usage to ensure integrity and control redundancy. Load and reorganize databases as needed.
Perform data modeling and prototyping, including logical and physical data modeling. Design relational database models and create physical data models from logical data models.
Perform security recovery procedures and implement database search strategies and storage requirements. Maintain a data dictionary to ensure uniformity of definitions and set standards for its use.
Monitor database performance and recommend efficiency improvements.

5yrs - Required - Strong knowledge of database management systems, as well as data warehouse management and decision support tools
5yrs - Required - Extensive experience in the development, implementation and maintenance of data warehouses and data marts is desired
5yrs - Required - Experience in business objects and in building the data dictionary
5yrs - Required - Ability to use data base access tools for application delivery
5yrs - Required - Strong familiarity with analysis, planning and management reporting functions
5yrs - Required - Well-developed oral and written communications skills
5yrs - Required - Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
5yrs - Required - Extremely high level of analytical ability where problems are very unusual and extremely difficult
5yrs - Required - Understanding of benchmarking processes and techniques

5yrs - Required - Data Warehousing data population and data modeling techniques for target structures such as Star Schemas, Snowflake Schemas, and highly normalized data models
5yrs - Required - GUI based ETL tools such as Informatica, IBM WebSphere DataStage, or similar tools.
5yrs - Required - Implementation experience with enterprise class databases e.g. Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server, etc. or similar technologies.
5yrs - Required - Implementation experience with analytical and reporting tools e.g. Business Objects, Cognos, Hyperion, MicroStrategy or similar tools.
5yrs - Required - Experience with data warehouse implementation process, from business requirements through logical modeling, physical database design, data sourcing and data transformation, data loading, Structured Query Language (SQL), end-user tools, database and SQL
5yrs - Required - Implementation experience with analytical and reporting tools e.g. Business Objects, Cognos, Hyperion, MicroStrategy or similar tools.
5yrs - Required - Excellent analytical; problem-solving; team playing; and oral and written communication skills.
5yrs - Required - Proven ability to work successfully with technical and non-technical groups and manage multiple responsibilities.
5yrs - Preferred - Oracle Database experience
5yrs - Preferred - SSRS report creation
1yr - Preferred - M204 database experience
Work hours and location:
Services shall be provided during normal business hours unless otherwise coordinated through the Agency. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m., excluding Texas state holidays when the agency is closed.
The primary work location will be 701 W 51st St, Austin, Texas 78751.
Position will be remote. Program will allow candidates who are within the state (Any location within the State of Texas).
