Job Requirements / Description
LAC Federal is seeking an Archivist/Metadata Specialist to work on-site at a federal agency in the Washington, DC area. The Archivist will be responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining metadata for physical and digital archives using a combination of DACS and Dublin Core. The Archivist will assist the agency in implementing an archival management system that will employ DACS and BibFrame to describe agency archives and publications. A knowledge of programming language including R, Python, and Java will be essential in working to implement the digital archives solution.
Provide leadership and coordination for implementing a digital archives solution using DACS and Dublin Core standards as a basis for a custom metadata schema tailored to agency needs
Plan and implement digital preservation solutions for the digital archives including implemention of preservation and administrative metadata
Assist with migration of digital records into a new digital archiving solution
Provide original description of archival materials
Using R, Java, Python and other programming language to assist will developing and implementing workflow automations, data management, and statistics
Requirements
Master's in Library and Information Science with a focus on Digital Archives or Digital Preservation
At least 2-3 years of digital archives experience implementing, configuring, and maintaining digital archives solutions
Knowledge of DACS, BibFrame, PREMIS and other related metadata standards for digital archives
Knowledge of programming with Python, R, Java
Knowledge of and experience with some traditional library programs and standards such as RDA, Library of Congress Subject Headings preferred
Experience with library service platforms, especially OCLC WorldShare Management Services preferred
